Terra Nova Station

Terra Nova is a Space Station orbiting near Mars supporting thousands of citizens. It is our central hub, and governing body for asteroid mining. If you can afford to leave Earth and start your career as a Belt Miner, that's where you're headed.

HISTORY
In 2020 Earth was running out of resources. Global Resource Management (GRM) funded Beltminer, Inc. to create a starship. The ship would venture into space and become a self-sufficient asteroid mining and resource gathering platform.

Simultaneously, GRM pursued another brute-force method of providing valuable resources to Earth. It landed a crew on a C-Type asteroid requiring low delta V to bring it to Earth. The crew landed, and processed the ice-water on the asteroid to create liquid-hydrogen fuel to burn in "steering rockets". The technique required aero-braking the asteroid in the Earths atmosphere on arrival. Dangerous, but the asteroid would provide the world requirement for steel, water, and organic compounds for several million years.

By 2050, the quality of life on earth began to decline signifigantly. Wars over resources began destroying cities and entire populations. At that time GRM staked a claim on the asteroid 1036 Ganymed, and it began its journey toward Earth.

In 2055, with incredible fanfare, the Starship Terra Nova was completed by Beltminer, Inc. It left its moorings in Earth orbit where it had been assembled, heading out toward a Lagrange point near Mars. There, it would begin a decades-long transition into a self sustaining space station.  Using the resources of the asteroid belt, the station would be capable of expanding and growing to support thousands, or even hundreds of thousands of people. The success of this mission had two areas of high risk. First, the job of asteroid belt mining was extremely dangerous, but essential for the initial growth of the station. Belt Miners would need to take on this treacherous task. Second, in addition to supporting humankinds expansion into space, these resources had to get to Earth to save it from extinction. Chemical rockets would not do the job. Beltminer, Inc. had a promising research project headed by renown scientist Henry Stanner. If successful, the "Stanner Drive" would instantaneously transport the resources from the asteroid belt to earth using a warp-field generation technology.

In 2060 the asteroid 1036 Ganymed arrived in Earth orbit. GRMs calculations were off, and it burned too low through the atmosphere, causing global environmental catastrophe, and reduced the human population from 13 to two billion people.

The remnants of GRM and Beltminer, Inc. were scattered. Contact with the starship Terra Nova was lost. Over decades, GRM regrouped and assumed global control of all technology and resources, becoming a dictatorship headed by Sal Craft. Beltminer, Inc. seceded, knowing that if GRM gained control of the Stanner Drive, they would find Terra Nova, and control the resources in space as well. Beltminer, Inc. started an underground movement, and a Resistance to fight GRM, complete the Stanner Drive, and find Terra Nova.

Isolated towns struggled to rebuild technology, infrastructure, and faith in humanity. Stuck on Earth and raised in isolation, Henry Stanner's descendant, Charlie Stanner, helped complete the Stanner Drive.  Charlie Stanner and members from Beltminer, Inc.'s Resistance built a ship, found Terra Nova first, and with limitless resources and tremendous production capability, defeated GRM.

Terra Nova now provides resources for humankinds ventures into space, and the people of Earth. Enter the new frontier. Become a Belt Miner, stake a claim, and live a life of adventure.
